Navigating the holidays with kids during and after your divorce

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. If you are a divorced parent, you may currently be dealing with a number of struggles and challenges related to your child custody and visitation situation. But, Thanksgiving is an excellent reminder that our children are something to be grateful for. As the holiday season officially kicks off tomorrow, Thanksgiving also serves as a reminder that it is time to iron out any holiday plan issues you may need to work out with your co-parent.

Why child support obligations are not optional

The relationship between parent and child can be complex. The relationship between parents who are no longer together can be equally complex. Perhaps because these relationships contain so many different potential dynamics, loyalties, emotional responses and connections, the concept of child support can be a uniquely heated one.

If you are divorcing and have a child with special needs

As a parent of a child with special needs, you are almost certainly well-versed in advocating for your child's best interest. You likely go to battle in order to ensure that his or her rights are respected and needs are met physically, emotionally, socially and educationally on a regular basis. As a result, it will likely not surprise you that in child custody cases, you will be compelled by the court to make decisions in your child's best interest.

When can you change child support payment amounts?

A lot of Florida families don't realize that once a child custody and support arrangement is made it may not be set entirely in stone. If circumstances change significantly one or both parents can file for a change in the agreement, asking for increased or decreased time with the children and a corresponding adjustment to support payments.

Television personality seeks custody of his baby

Television personality and DJ Pauly D has recently begun to seek custody of his five-month-old daughter. The reality television star had the baby with a woman he spent only a brief amount of time with and the state of their relationship now has caused him to be unable to meet his daughter. He says the custody filing is the first step in the process of finding a way to spend time with his baby and working out a long term parenting and support plan.
