Florida man alleged $166,000 delinquent in child support

A complaint filed against a Florida man claims that he owes approximately $166,000 in back child support. The delinquent child support payments cover the period from 2007 until 2012. The father now faces nine counts of failing to pay child support in what could result in 13.5 years of imprisonment.

The original child support order goes back to 2002 where he was ordered to pay his former wife $2,000 a month in child support. It appears that he had not paid any of the court ordered payments after 2007.

It's difficult to know the circumstances of the father or the reasons why he was apparently so behind in making his child support payments. If circumstances changed that prevents full or even partial payments from being made, that parent is entitled to return to court to have a judge reconsider the amount of child support payments that should be made.

When originally considering how much in child support should be paid, courts will take into consideration the financial status of both parents, income, property and other assets. However, the number one consideration will always be the needs of the child.

Courts will look at the short term and long term physical, mental and emotional needs of the child being met. The best of family law attorneys representing parents in child support matters will do what they can to insure that parents work together in meeting the needs of the child.

Ideally, we would like to see a divorce finalized without the child's level of care being reduced in any manner.
